Nikon Nikkor AF-S D ED-IF II 600mm F/4.0 II D IF ED Lens

The sweet spot for Professional Sports
This is the Lightest reasonably priced version of this ULTRA SWEET lens. The Type II AFs is lighter than the G version and alot lighter than the AFs Type 1. The newest version from Nikon is OVER $12 Grand so this lens represents the sweet spot in 600mm lenses. Superb sharpness and excellent speed, a real plus for a pro sports photographer. Well constructed and rides a monopod well this lens performs to the high standards af all of todays cameras, yet still has the aperture ring for use with video or old film cameras. I recommend changing to a wimberley or RRS mount though as the Nikon one is not perfect and a bit too tall. Tripod OR Mono Pod is a MUST.

The "GO TO LENS"
I am a Full-Time Professional and own three to four of these lenses at all times. The 24-120mm is the Go-To lens as i actually ALWAYS have one with me on every shoot. It is reliable, sharp and for MANY jobs the ONLY lens I use. I DO own the 24-70mm f2.8 and use it in some situations but the expanded reach of the 24-120mm is quite useful and the loss of one stop is not that much of a problem since on most shoots my fstop is around 7.1. This does NOT replace the 24-70 since it is slightly less refined (lower build quality) but for the price and with its expanded focal length range it is a no-brainer with very nice results.
