Good basics, but not significant variety
This cookbook is great for people who don't have a great imagination for the kinds of things you might cook in a slow-cooker (aka me). However, this cookbook boasts hundreds of recipes, but the variety you will find is disappointing. Recipes look almost identical to each other; for example, one stew might omit carrots. Does that really call for two separate recipes? I like that they credit the authors of each recipe, but a little description of why it is their favorite, variations they've tried, or even a photograph would be wonderful. Also, of the few recipes I've tried, they are pretty bland. Pirate Stew could have used some serious kick; it is after all for pirates, right?! I haven't totally given up hope; I am going to try the swedish cabbage rolls (something that looks identical to a dish my mom used to make) and if it hits the mark, I will be thrilled. For the most part, this is a very basic cookbook, most of which you could probably find online, though I know that ruins the spirit of having a cookbook.

This is a wonderful DVD for kids who like ballet!
I LOVE this DVD! My daughter just started ballet lessons and she loves to watch the whole thing as well as the individual stories. The settings are really cool (outdoors, etc) and the music is beautiful. The dances very much suit the personality of the characters, though some of the content is questionable for young ages (cat hunting mice, a weird fight/breaking of dishes by the mice...those naughty mice, some creepy gloomy facial expressions from "Beatrix"). It just depends on whether you have a sensitive kid or not. I would highly recommend this DVD.

If you love some intrigue set in the Northwest...read!
This book is set believably in the NW...characters drink Henry's, etc. and doesn't fluff small-town living when there's no work and no money to be had. It's also dramatic in a worst-case-scenario type of way. Most people I've known growing up in small towns don't have such intense drama, but that's what makes a book interesting enough to read instead of pondering your own life situation. This is not for someone who likes their stories tied up in pretty packages with neat bows, but it is for someone who likes a writer who cares, challenges, and ultimately lets the story be told instead of trying too hard to tell a story.
