Must have if you're a fan of OTR
I bought this to fill out my collection of the group. At first listen, it's a bit dry and not really super exciting. But as I've listened to it over the past few weeks, it's been growing on me as all good music does. The music is somewhat melancholy. It's the lyrics that shine here. If this is your first OTR purchase, go check out Films for Radio or Eve, those two releases are much more accessable to the new fan, I think so anyways. Drunkard's Prayer is for the serious fans of the band sort of like Ohio is. There's one or two tracks I can live without on this CD and Ohio too, but overall it's a decent CD and I'm glad I bought it. A must have for hardcore fans of Over the Rhine!

Cleaned up better than I expected!
This is not a normal review. I am a technician. I have another one of these same models and they recap nicely! The picture and sound are phenominal. Considering the units age, they clean up rather well. I did take it all apart and clean it inside and out. All the electrolytics capacitors were replaced and the flux removed from the circuit boards for improved performance, longer life, and prevention of component failure. The amount of flux was minimal compaired to other units by JVC and Apex that I've worked on recently. The reason these are still working is because of Panasonic's impressive build quality. The power supply is decent in my opinion and the transport is much different, way more solid and substantial than those in many players these days. Many of the new ones are converted from computer drives which isn't necessarily a bad thing, but a solid transport makes for a solid sounding player too. That's the most impressive thing about this particular model. The sound of audio CD's is simply amazing after the work's been done! Worth every cent of what it cost to buy the parts! Black Gate caps in the digital audio outputs are what really puts this over the top. Elna Cerafines are also recommended but they are a bit harsher than the BG's. I'll be buying more of these if this review doesn't cause a run on them first!

Good for everyday computing
I bought this to test a used Asus P5KC motherboard I recently purchased. The processor worked well under most conditions. It's good for everyday computing but for the serious user, I would recommend a quad core or an i7 or i5. Everything in my PC was working well but my Sound Blaster Audigy 2ZS was glitching on the audio feeding into my DAC. I turned off the 'Speed Step' features in the BIOS to keep the CPU running at full speed but that didn't stop the audio from glitching. I don't know if it's the fault of the sound card drivers, the motherboard, or the CPU. I might even blame the OS! Vista 32 bit is what I used to test the system. I had no glitching from my audio when I switched my system to a dual core AM2 based system with all the same components like my 1TB WD SATA II hard drive, Nvidia 7600gt PCI-E video card, 2gb OCZ PC6400 DDR2 RAM, and 400 watt power supply. The audio would only glitch while multitasking, like running a virus scan or spy-ware scan while playing MP3 files from my hard drive using either Windows Media Player 11 or Media-Monkey. Something that just about any dual core processor should be able to handle with ease. It left me with a slight bad taste for Intel...again. (I see why Intel switched over to the i7 platform. The on-die memory controller does a much better job at communicating between the RAM and the CPU)(that's something AMD has had in their processors ever since the first Athlon64!) I could have done some more testing with a different OS and different drivers but I didn't. The results could be different. For the average user doing usual things with their PC, it probably would be fine. It's still a good CPU, especially for the money I paid. For now, I'm sticking with an AMD based system.
