UNHO 18.5" Large DSLR Camera Backpack Padded Photo Bag & All Weather Cover Black
Sep 23, 2017
Great design, poorly executed
The UNHO 18.5" Large DSLR Camera Backpack has a lot going for it. I bought it for the separate bottom compartment, which was just the right size for my Mamiya RB67, with lens and film back attached, once I added some of the included padded dividers in the right places. I expect to be able to pack my entire RB67 setup in it, using the upper section. On my recent trip, I had the RB67 in the bottom, my Canon 6D, with the 100-400mm zoom attached, my 24-105mm, the hoods for both lenses, my 1.4x telextender, a set of extension tubes, an Olympus 21mm manual lens, and a Ricoh Five One Nine camera in the upper compartment, along with a couple other small items. The small zippered pocket on the outside of the upper section worked well for battery and card storage. The larger zippered pocket would work well for filter storage in situations where they would not be in danger of being crushed (i.e.; not on airplanes). I was able to use the included straps and one outside pocket to carry my monopod. The handle appears to be very strong. Now the weak points - it needs to be larger, in my opinion. The 100-400mm just barely fit. I had to remove the eyepiece extender to make it work. There isn't enough room in the top compartment for all the lenses I would like to put in it. Using the bottom compartment might solve that, but I really bought it as a two-system bag, so that doesn't work for me. It might for you. The zippers are not very good. None have broken, yet, but they are very difficult to zip or unzip around the corners, and the tabs on them are solid metal with no hole for a loop of cord to add grip. The shoulder straps could use more padding and shaping. The waist-belt was apparently designed for small Chinese men. I could not use it, at all. There are straps with snap hooks on the shoulder straps that I suspect are intended to hold your camera while hiking or walking around, but they are MUCH too short for that purpose on me. The only use I found for them was strapping a jacket to the top of the bag. The accessory straps that are included for purposes such as carrying tripods/monopods are very difficult to tighten because they aren't attached to anything. The upside of that is that you can remove them. The most annoying aspect of it is the poor quality of the connectors. The plastic snap connectors are not entirely reliable. Worse than that, the shoulder straps are two pieces, which is common, but they kept letting go as I was hauling the pack up to put it on. I almost lost the whole thing, the first time. These problems are easily solved at the manufacuring level by using higher quality parts. At the user end, I can probably sew the shoulder straps in place and cut off the waist-belt, which hit me slightly below my sternum and way above my waist. Overall, I can live with it, but it could be so much better with some minor changes. How durable it is remains to be seen.

So far, so good
We've only had it a short time. Hopefully, the batteries will hold up. For now, they work just fine.

Cheap, not affordable
It looks right, at first, and it fits, but the soft rubber piece lets go of the hard plastic base at every opportunity. I spent way too much time looking for it on my vacation. That time was worth much more than the cost of a better quality product.
