Very sharp @ 28mm f/2.8!!

Nice upgrade from the ii, but no instant manual focus override.
I would say this is a tad sharper than the ii wide open, but I'm getting more keepers out of this lens compared to the old one due to it's auto-focus being a big step up. Overall, I really love this lens with it's better build quality, but why Canon doesn't put instant manual focus override in this lens boggles me...

Best affordable way to get to 600mm
2 of 2 found this helpful I love this lens. Great for wildlife and astro. I used this lens on my homemade astro-tracker and was able to get some cool shots of Orion's Nebula on a D7100. Very sharp wide open even sharper stopped down 1 stop. Image stabilization is a requirement even on a tripod if it is windy. It is a big lens, but it can still be carried around on short hikes. The only con I have with this lens and it may be more my camera, but on a D600 it overexposes by 1 stop. Excellent value for the money. Get rid of the tele-converters and pick one of these up.
