This movie came to my attention through working with people who self harm. This is the crux of this movie in that it highlights the synthesis of self harm and sexual attraction.
The two lead roles are fortunate to fall upon each other as they both have similar needs. I write fortunate because in everyday life this would not be the case and the couple would have faced society presenting a personality disorder. To that end the female hurting herself in an attempt to find herslf: and the male hurting others. Both types of behaviour impact upon behaviour modification. Thus privately acting out fantasies into physical reality.
The movie is interspaced with sybolism and metaphor. The lighting in the males office highlights the mood swings; the echo of physical (slaps) front behind a closed door. This is supplemented by a shot of bruising on the females thigh and buttock.
The movie closes with a poser: who, what, is the symbol left on the bed intended for, does it answer any questions that the movie asks of the viewer?
I would recommend this movie to any budding psychologist because that is what it is about: the human personality interacting with his / her darksides; and is it all bad?
