We deal in all sorts of memorabilia Napoleonic to the Civil War. We are located just outside of Gettysburg at the Historic Shaeffer Farm. The House was built by Nicholas Mark 1780. It was a tavern then.under the sign of 'George Washington'. At the time of the Civil War, the property was owned by Daniel Shaffer. General Dan Sickles was carried to the House for the amputation of his leg on July 2,1863. Holes were drilled in the downstairs floor to sweep blood into the celler. The bloodstains are still visible on the wood floors. A shell hit the house during the fighting and the replacement bricks are also still to be seen. The family put in a claim for damages after the war and Daniel Shaffer stated that General Sickles had his leg amputated in the house. The house and field were used by Union and Confederate captured prisoners and wounded.
