False or Missing Contact Information

Falsifying or omitting contact information such as a member’s name, address, and/or telephone number when registering on eBay is not permitted. It is also not permitted for fax numbers or disconnected numbers to be used as a telephone number.

If you believe an eBay member is using false contact information, please report it using the Customer Support link at the bottom of this page.

Violations of this policy may result in a range of actions, including:

  • Listing cancellation

  • Loss of eBay fees

  • Limits placed on account privileges

  • Loss of PowerSeller status

  • Account suspension

John Tan lives at 10 Holland Road. John registers on eBay, but says his name is Peter Lim, and that he lives at 12 Bukit Timah Road. John has violated the eBay False or Missing Contact Information policy.

John’s brother Joseph also lives at 10 Holland Road. Joseph registers on eBay, using his real name and address, but using an old phone number that no longer works. Joseph has violated the eBay False or Missing Contact Information policy.

The success of eBay’s marketplace is dependent on trust and transparency. Providing false contact information undermines both of these principles. Furthermore, trading partners need to be able to communicate with each other. False contact information clearly impedes communication between members and increases the likelihood of Unpaid Items, disputes, negative feedback and other problems.
