Enabling Duplication of Copy-Protected Material

Sellers are not permitted to list any hardware or software that would enable members to duplicate copy-protected material. These copy-protected materials include (but are not limited to)

  • Video games

  • Software programs

  • CD-ROMs

  • DVDs

  • CDs

Additionally, sellers may not encourage the use of hardware or software devices designed to defeat copy-protection measures.

Violations of this policy may result in a range of actions, including:

  • Listing cancellation

  • Loss of eBay fee credits

  • Limits placed on account privileges

  • Loss of PowerSeller status

  • Account suspension

The following are examples of items which violate eBay’s Anti-Circumvention Policy:

  • DVD “ripping” software that enables members to duplicate copy-protected DVDs

  • CD “ripping” software that enables members to copy ‘uncopyable’ video games, software programs, or other CD-ROMs, is not allowed on eBay.

  • Software or books that describe how to break copy-protection codes on DVDs or other media

  • A book on how to copy a copy-protected DVD is not permitted on eBay.

eBay wants to ensure its sellers and buyers comply with all governmental laws and regulations. Since the duplication of copy-protected materials is prohibited by law, regulated, or may cause harm to eBay or its members, sellers may not list items on eBay that encourage this behavior.
