The rivalry between Chris Evert and Martina Navratilova was a high point in the women's game during the 1970s, and their ferocious battles on the Wimbledon courts have become the stuff of legend. In 1978, Evert had the upper hand. With two consecutive Wimbledon titles to her name in the preceding years, she expected to snatch a third title in '78 as she faced Navratilova in the final. After easily taking the first set, it seemed that Evert was on course for victory.
