Courtesy of NBC, he headlined the 1961 period saga WHISPERING SMITH, a western-detective yarn set in 1870s Denver, Colorado. Murphy starred as Tom "Whispering" Smith, a detective assigned to investigate perpetrations of fraud on the 19th Century railroads. Week after week, he drew from a combination of wit and Colt .45-wielding skill, to bring evildoers to justice.
