NotesDo you remember Thrasher Mag's old Skate Rock tapes? The bands that bridged a staggered transition between death metal and hardcore? "Skate Rock" was coined in the early '80s and made famous by the magazine's skater bands. This year, Thrasher and Volcom Entertainment bring Skate Rock Vol. 12, a double disc featuring unreleased and live tracks from Alkaline Trio, Millencolin, Only Crime, Planes Mistaken for Stars, Turbonegro, and pro skater bands the Heartaches, Shed, Gnarkill (Bam Margera), and Die Hunns (Duane Peters). The CD represents the vision of the legendary Skate Rock tapes while the DVD features a visual documentary that captures the what, where, and how come skateboarding became so important to rock in general, with five live performances from Turbonegro at the 2004 Thrasher Skater of the Year Awards, some skateboarding history, backstage antics, and bonus features from Thrasher and Volcom. 2005.
