About this product

Product Information

The vintage Tyco Scale Swift Refrigerator Wood Side Reefer Car is the perfect addition to your HO model train collection. It comes ready to run in its box, which you can use to store the reefer in mint condition. It isn't a kit, so you won't need to build anything before use. The frame is made with durable and premium materials. This creates as realistic a representation of the refrigerated boxcar as possible. The silver and red paint scheme makes for a striking display piece. It's based on the actual livery used on a Swift Premium Reefer that once rode the rails for real. You can also take the car out of the package and attach it to a train. This reefer features a sleek industrial design. This design emulates the appearance of other train cars as they appeared in circulation in the 1970s. Wood reefer units were giving way to mechanical refrigeration systems at that time. This piece represents one of the very last reefer units ever to feature a discrete icing mechanism. If you're building a layout that takes place in this period, then it will fit perfectly. Tyco's artists took the time to make the plastic sides look like actual wood in order to match trains of the time. Simulated boards run straight over the door on both sides of the car, which adds to the realism. Railcars in the real world have to feature a text description and number on both sides by law. Typesetters actually added a railcar number on this scale cart. It's lettered for road name SRLX No. 4226, which is a realistic identifier. Search the sides of the scale boxcar for a moment, and you'll see they also wrote out capacity and copyright information. This boxcar even has a realistic built date that matches when the real version was built. Tyco models feature a special plastic-on-metal wheel fitting that makes a great squealing sound. It's extremely subtle, but your refrigerated railcar will actually squeal ever so slightly. This is similar to the sound that the trucks on the bottom of real boxcars make. Put one of these boxcars at the front of an HO train and listen closely. The surface is able to resist all types of wear and tear as well. This makes it ideal for active navigation on code 80 or 55 HO scale model track. Since it features standard HO scale horn-hook couplers, this reefer is compatible with equipment from most major manufacturers. It will couple to most HO scale models from the Atlas and Con-Cor collections. If you want to install knuckle couplers, then you can easily change them out on this scale unit. The trucks are high enough to work with automatic uncouplers.
