Product Information
Monte Hellman's road film is one of the seminal American movies of the 70s, ranking alongside Easy Rider as a work that highlights the transition from the optimistic 60s into the cynicism of the 70s. Singer/songwriter James Taylor and Beach Boy Dennis Wilson play the driver and mechanic of a 1955 Chevy who earn their money taking on small-town dragsters. They meet up with Warren Oates, driver of a Pontiac Gto, who suggests a race to Washington Dc; the winner taking the loser's car. Along the road, they pick up Laurie Bird (the actor was to commit suicide eight years later) and the foursome set out on a trip across the America of run-down towns, diners and cheap motels where hope and optimism are in short supply.Product Identifiers
