RIDERS OF THE WHISTLING PINES (1949) is an all-singing all-dancing Western classic; when an insect plague ravages the forest, evil loggers who plan on harvesting protected land murder a forest ranger and frame Autry. They spray the forest to kill the insects and end up killing much of the wildlife, leaving Autry to step in with his patented brand of cowboy justice. In THE OLD CORRAL (1936) Autry stars as a sheriff who squares off against a gang of Chicago mobsters, bent on rubbing out a nightclub singer who can finger them for a murder. And watch IN OLD SANTA FE (1934) for a glimpse of young Autry at the beginning of his cowboy career in an uncredited musical role.
