Additional informationPersonnel includes: Nanci Griffith (vocals); James Hooker (piano, synthesizer); Mark Donahue (synthesizer); Pat Donaldson (electric bass, mando-cello); Fran Breen (drums); Phil Everly, Bernie Leadon. This album was a real departure from Griffith's previous hard country albums--partly because of genius rock producer Glyn Johns, who's worked with everybody from the Who to the Ozark Mountain Devils to the Clash to Belly, and who gives the album his customary understated sonic sheen; and partly because of the presence of some interesting non-Nashville players, including ex-Eagle Bernie Leadon and ex-Fairport Convention Jerry Donohue on guitars. Highlights include the title song, an almost-rocker with the memorable couplet "Is loneliness contagious? Another damn song about a waitress," and the heartbreakingly lovely "You Made This Love a Teardrop," a breakup song featuring high-lonesome harmony by Phil Everly.
