Product Information
Tenor saxophonist Stan Getz (1927-1991) was nicknamed "the Sound" because of the rich, smooth, always melodious music that flowed from his instrument. Getz got his start as a teenager, playing with big bands in the 1940s. Over the course of his career, he played just about every form of jazz, becoming particularly important and influential to the bossa nova genre. STAN GETZ-THE LAST RECORDING features Getz in his final concert appearance, a year before he died, filmed at the Munich Philharmonic Hall. Getz plays a number of songs from his record APASIONADO and a cover of Miles Davis's "Seven Steps to Heaven." Backing up Getz on the recording are a number of talented musicians including popular pianist Kenny Barron, with whom Getz worked quite often in his latter years. The performance captured on THE LAST RECORDING is the final flowering of one of jazz's great saxophonists, and shouldn't be missed by any enthusiast of the form.Product Identifiers
