The Sporting News Baseball features four-player simultaneous action with the use of Hudson Soft's Super Multitap adapter. Choose to play in one of three different stadiums, including a dome (artificial turf), traditional ballpark (grass field), and "dream field" surrounded by a cornfield fence! While the game does not carry a Major League Baseball license, team names can be edited and an MLBPA license offers actual players from the 1994 season. The game is played from a traditional view above and behind home plate as you swing away with the press of a button. Once the ball sails into the air, the game will switch to an overhead perspective so you can track the ball's shadow. Pitching involves selecting a pitch and then guiding it over the plate with the control pad. Players can set the number of innings from one to nine, turn off automatic errors, set manual or automatic fielding, and choose one of three difficulty levels: normal, pro or hard. Take on up to three other friends in an Exhibition or All-Star game, swing for the fences in the Home Run Derby, or play a season in the Pennant Race mode. Seasons can be customized from 26, 52, 78 or a full 162 games, and both team and individual statistics can be saved to battery.
