About this product

Product Information

Developed by Xiphias, the company that introduced the first computer graphics system to be used in television news (KNXT in Los Angeles), Soft Kill merges photo-realistic imagery and video with storytelling in a techno-thriller where rogue Japanese terrorists threaten the Alaska Pipeline, the Panama Canal, and the Malaccan Straits. Locations range from a secret U. S. Navy base in Hawaii and the north shore of Alaska to Tokyo and the royal palaces in Saudi Arabia.

The innovative gameplay system consists of seven rows of ten cells each (called the Matrix), with four storytelling modes possible: Author (basic storytelling), Point-of-View (first-person views of varying subjects or subplots), Random (play sequences within each cell), and User (create your own path through the cells). Each cell, or segment, utilizes a movie/story screen offering a visual look at the action, and a text-based information screen that provides background material relative to the story.

The term "soft kill," popularized in the 1960s, refers to the concept of non-lethal weapons of destruction and gained impetus in post-Cold War strategic planning. The proprietary Matrix Interface system design was featured in four Xiphias titles in 1993, including the Illustrated Facts series and Kathy Smith's Fat Burning System.
