Product Information
You can dive into an adorable science fiction world filled with bright colors and compelling characters in "SEGA Ages: Fantasy Zone." This is one of the original arcade games created by SEGA, and it later became available for at-home gaming on the SEGA Saturn. This traditional side scrolling game features the same controls and graphics as the original arcade version. Another recognizable entry in the SEGA Ages Saturn series was called Space Harrier. Both games use the same world, but the games vary dramatically when it comes to gameplay. In SEGA Ages: Fantasy Zone, it is the Space Year 1422 (6216 in the Master System version). The interplanetary money system has collapsed, and the Fantasy Zone is in a panic. The Space Guild discovers that evil forces on the planet Menon have been stealing money to build a military fortress. As a player, you control a sentient spaceship named Opa-Opa, which has been sent by the Space Guild to destroy the invading army and discover who the evil mastermind behind the plan is. Your ship is placed on a level with a specific number of bases to destroy and enemies to outrun. When those are gone, the stage boss appears and must be defeated to reach the next stage. In the final level, you must beat all the stage bosses again before facing the final boss. You can upgrade the weapons on Opa-Opa as you play the game, using money that is gained from defeating enemies in the various levels. You can buy weapons, bombs, or an upgraded flying engine. Before you leave the shop, you have to choose one weapon, one bomb, and one engine to use as you continue through the level. Be careful, though – if you lose a life, you lose all of your upgrades! Many video game enthusiasts can have fond memories of playing SEGA Ages Saturn. In case you no longer have a SEGA Saturn, the game was ported onto several other systems, including the SEGA Master System. Later collections and releases can be played on all SEGA consoles, including SEGA Genesis. These later collections were available in both North America and Europe. Sega Ages: Fantasy Zone was also part of a retro collection released on a disc for the Playstation 2 (PS2). However, the PS2 retro version has some changes, including a game mode very similar to Space Harrier. Space Harrier was another part of the SEGA Ages series that was released for the SEGA Saturn. Sega Ages: Fantasy Zone isn’t an extremely serious game, of course. In fact, the game design and cute characters helped Sega Ages: Fantasy Zone gain credit for the creation of the “cute ‘em up” subgenre of arcade games. Cute ‘em up games include battles but set the game in surreal settings that are more cute than realistic. Whether you have fond memories of playing this first installment of Sega Ages Saturn, or you missed this game and only played Space Harrier, you can add Sega Ages: Fantasy Zone to your arcade game collection.Product Identifiers
