One of the first releases from the Atari's RealSports series, RealSports Baseball is the follow-up to Home Run, Atari's first attempt at a baseball game for the Atari 2600.

Unlike Home Run, RealSports Baseball follows the real rules of baseball, with two teams, a nine-inning game, base stealing and multiple types of pitches. Gameplay takes place on a static, one-screen playfield containing the nine defensive players, the batter and the umpire.

RealSports Baseball features four different game variations:

Game 1: Two-player game. Right player starts on offense. Left player starts on defense. The batter is able to hit any pitch, no matter if it is a strike or a ball.

Game 2: Two-player game. Left player starts on offense. Right player starts on defense. The batter is able to hit balls (non-strikes) only about 20 percent of the time.

Game 3: One-player game. Player starts on defense. The batter is only able to hit balls about 20 percent of the time.

Game 4: One-player game. Player starts on offense.
