ReviewsChristianne C. Jone's John Henry is an extraordinary Spanish language version of this tall tale that has become one of the most well known tales in American folklore. The story of John Henry's legacy is illustrated beautifully. The illustrations help sum up the image of a man, with a hammer, who had extraordinary strength and determintation. He proved his courage in a contest with a steam drill, only to die of exhaustion after his triumph. He said that he would win, and he did. The translation into the Spanish language is accurate, and the story is told briefly and in simple language that is easy-to-read. The story of John Henry is an exceptional role model for children because even though John Henry died, he never gave up. This is an excellent addition to any folklore collection. Other titles in this series are Pecos Bill; La leyenda de Daniel Boone; Johnny Appleseed; Paul Bunyan, and La pistolera Annie Oakley. Recommended.
