Product Information
Narrated by Tony Ponfret and produced by Thomas Walker, this electronic fanzine is a critical assessment of Nirvana's In Utero along with commentary from many including Chad Channing, original drummer for the band, Jimi Hendrix/Nirvana biographer Charles R. Cross, and others including the owner of the recording studios where some of the early work on In Utero started, the album Bleach's producer, Jack Endino. As these excursions into deep discussion of an album go, this one is a bit on the morbid side and a bit excessive on the scholarly attempts at high brow appreciation. There are always some nuggets in these video montages that are worth having on the shelf and better to get these thoughts on tape now for future historians centuries down the road. It's good to keep in mind that these unauthorized opinion pieces won't have the in-depth secrets that you'll find on official DVDs like Classic Albums: Electric Ladyland, the Eddie Kramer narrated look at Jimi Hendrix's classic double LP. Consider the Under Review series like a little B-movie on the projects and performers you love. Rather than take the dozen tracks on In Utero and discuss them one by one, you get the obligatory look at "Smells Like Teen Spirit" from Nevermind and other things to make it more attractive for those outside of the hardcore fan circle. Comes with biographies of the contributors, an interactive Nirvana quiz, and a two-minute bonus discussion of the Unplugged in New York album. As stated, these are electronic fanzines for those who just can't get enough listening to the real thing. A little more stuffy than usual, and not as informative as the Kate Bush: Under Review similar disc from Sexy Intellectual. ~ Joe ViglioneProduct Identifiers
