The Nikon BC-7 is an electronic flash unit designed to eliminate problems in low-lighting situations and is compatible with many Nikon SLR cameras. The electronic flash attaches to the camera via the hot shoe mount and synchronizes with the camera's shutter. The reflector and the attaching mechanism are separate parts, so the user can switch out the flash bulb if necessary. Three types of flash bulbs are compatible with the Nikon BC-7: the S.C. Bayonet base, miniature base (M2) and AG-1 (all glass). When a flashbulb is inserted into the socket of the Nikon BC-7 Flash, it charges the capacitor, thus avoiding draining the battery. The electronic flash has test circuits for checking each flash bulb, charging the capacitor, and synchronizing the circuit and connection of the flash unit. A synchronization cord socket allows the photographer to use the Nikon BC-7 Flash as an extension flash. The reflector is designed in a fan-fold style, which compacts for easy transport. Finally, the illuminating angle is approximately 65 degrees on the Nikon BC-7 Flash.
