THE LOST DRAGON MINE First discovered by three Swedes in 1864 and abandoned when they left to search for richer goldfields, the mine lay undiscovered for three decades. The new discoverer was killed before he could work it, and its location has been eagerly sought ever since. THE FORGOTTEN MINES OF SILVER PEAK MOUNTAIN Do rich silver mines lie forgotten in the mountains south of Hope? According to the story, the mines, first discovered in 1868, yielded rich silver ore until they were closed in 1874. BULLDOG KELLY'S BURIED LOOT In 1884 a whisky salesman was making his way south from Golden with two others when the party was held up by a lone gunman. One man was killed and another wounded, and the gunman netted $4,500. Some locals still believe the outlaw buried the loot near Golden.
