NotesDigitally re-mastered and expanded edition of the classic self-titled 1972 album. South African born John Kongos had some success in his native country in the early 1960s before moving to Britain to further his career. He recorded his first album for Pye Records' newly formed Progressive label Dawn in 1970 before signing to Fly/Cube Records with whom he enjoyed two successful and highly creative hit singles 'He's Gonna Step on You Again' and 'Tokoloshe Man'. KONGOS was released in 1972 and was a UK chart hit. Produced by Gus Dudgeon, KONGOS featured a diversity of styles and experimentation and saw contributions from musicians such as Ray Cooper and Caleb Quaye. 'He's Gonna Step On You Again' was recorded by the Happy Mondays in 1990 as 'Step On' (a hit single), which brought Kongos' music to a new generation of followers. This release features nine bonus tracks (taken from his singles released by Fly/Cube Records), a booklet that fully restores the original album artwork and a new essay.
