Product Information
Before changing his name to Jayne, Wayne County was a fixture among the punk clubs of the early 1970s. With a background in the theatre, and as a DJ at the famous Max's Kansas City, Wayne clearly had the makings of a star. He first performed in drag at Max's in 1972, but found little interest among record label executives, who were not interested in his breed of glam-rock and punk-inspired performance style. Pairing self-proclaimed trashiness with kitsch appeal, Wayne found himself right at home in London, where he and his band The Electric Chairs were picked up by the label Safari. With London's punk scene starting to emerge, Wayne released a couple albums before retiring to Berlin. It was upon returning to the States in 1980 that Wayne changed his name to Jayne, thus becoming everyone's favorite rock & roll transsexual. Here, Jayne and The Electric Chairs perform at Blackpool's Holidays in the Sun Festival, in 1996.Product Identifiers
