Product Information
Internet English is the first WWW-based conversation course. It helps students develop the skills needed to surf the Web independently, while providing direction and motivation to complete specific tasks. It helps students take full advantage of the Internet as a classroom resource. The Internet provides a variety of topics to satisfy a diverse audience; it gives exposure to real-life English; it is fun and motivating; and it gives students the opportunity to manage their own learning. Students do not need to have advanced computer skills to use the course. Three introductory 'Computer Skills Units' bring less-experienced students up to speed on computer terminology, word processing operations, Web-surfing and e-mail. Each of the ten 'Web Search Units' follows the same carefully designed structure: students are introduced to the topic, guided through their Web search, then encouraged to share their results with their classmates in a variety of communicative activities. Vocabulary-building tasks prepare learners for the words and expressions they may encounter on the Internet. Pair work and group work activities give students the chance to share information and opinions and practise their speaking skills. A 'Computer Project' in each unit gives students the chance to use their computers and the World Wide Web creatively. A 'Language Window' in each unit contains useful grammatical structures that support the conversation tasks in each unit. A Teacher's Book gives notes on presenting the units, optional activities, photocopiable resource pages, tests, and lists of useful URLs. A dedicated product website ( www.oup.com/elt/internet.english ) has preselected links to sites that work with each unit's activities.Product Identifiers
