NotesA lot had happened to Gilbert O'Sullivan between his second LP Back to Front (Salvocdx002) and his third, I'm a Writer, Not a Fighter. He had hit number one in both America and Japan with Alone Again (Naturally) and was riding high in the charts in many other territories. He had also moved out of the bungalow he had shared with another singer, belonging to manager Gordon Mills, and moved into his own house. "A good time for me" remembers Gilbert, "just living on my own with pianos and very little furniture. I would spend weeks on end just writing to my heart's content." the sessions for I'm a Writer... took place during the early part of 1973 at Mills' recently completed studio. "Unlike the previous sessions, which were three hours here and there in various studios, for this one we would spend days in Gordon's studio," says Gilbert. "There were some overdubs done in America, but mostly it was a very ad hoc, home-based project. So, for me, the result has continuity running through it unlike perhaps the previous two albums."
