You can gear up and reenact your own military combat missions with G.I. Joe Combat Heroes action figures created by Hasbro. Intended for three years old and up, the three-inch figure two-pack includes heroes Firefly and Sgt. Bazooka, the chunky poseable figures that are stylized collectibles, ready to take part in all of your dangerous missions. The development of G.I. Joe led to the coining of the term "action figure,” and G.I. Joe’s appeal to children may have made it an American icon among toys. G.I. Joe Combat Heroes are characters that originate from the original G.I. Joe classic and the series that was produced later as well as the G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra movie. The line evolved from the cartoon figures depicted in comics and TV show, where each action figure wore a happy smile to grab the interest of preschool children. The platoon of action figures were released in several waves. The first wave, distributed in stores in October 2008, included the hero characters Bazooka and Firefly. Other combat figures were Snake Eyes and Young Timber; Zartan and Duke; Cobra Trooper; Roadblock; and Cobra Commander. During the second wave in December 2008, Hasbro released several other toys inspired by the comics. The figures included Flint and Baroness; Serpentor and Beachhead; Destro and Scarlett; and Storm Shadow and Barbecue. Beach Head’s back story can be the most riveting. Born Wayne R. Sneeden, Beach Head was raised in Auburn, AL, and lived in poverty. He was bullied by his classmates growing up. Sneeden beat the odds, however, and became valedictorian of his high school through hard work. Wave three was cancelled by Hasbro in the U.S. but was released in Canada. Heroes from this collection included Commando Snake Eyes and Cobra Viper; Shipwreck and Crimson Guard; Lady Jaye and Major Bludd; and Gung Ho and Cobra Commander. The year 2007 marked the 25th anniversary of the "Real American Hero" line. To commemorate the event, Hasbro released a 25th Anniversary collection of newly sculpted four-inch figures based on classic and new designs of many of the line’s best known and most popular characters. The G.I. Joe toys can be immensely popular today and can stand the test of time; G.I. Joe was inducted into the National Toy Hall of Fame at “The Strong” in Rochester, NY, in 2003. G.I.
