Hollywood tough guy Randolph Scott stars as their commander, Colonel Thorwald, who recruits and trains the soldiers--collectively known as "Carlson's Raiders"--in all imaginable forms of combat, culminating in an explosive battle sequence at the Japanese stronghold on Makin Island.
