NotesFLYING POTION is Second Culture's 5th release. Second Culture has been writing and recording programmed ambient progressive space rock for 30 years. The entire body of work of Second Culture has been consistently handled more from the point of view of being a sonic painting than a piece of music. All Second Culture material is based around the synthesizer, sequencer, drum machine programming of Keyth McGrew. The love of Klaus Schulze, Tangerine Dream, progressive rock and Depeche Mode obvious in Keyth's manipulation of said machinery. On FLYING POTION Keyth and Andy Hutson turn a long time collaborative connection into more of a production team. Andy adds etheric vocal round / mantras in a made up language. The music is also mixed in with floating space rock style guitars by Keyth and Mark Florin: all clean shimmery echo impressionistic slow guitars; with Mark Florin playing Chapman stick as well on several tracks in the conventional Chapman Stick style, as well as his own cello bow style similair to Jonsi of Sigur Ros, but the styling here actually predates Sigur Ros by years with the first Second Culture record 'It...The Other One' that came out in 1992. Second Cuture is immediately going to be noticeable as having a very direct styling of combining the best ideas of early 90's UK Ambient House and 70's progressive / Berlin School. The dense sonick pastoral webs of sound and percolating sequencer fractal grooves are alchemically brought to life in Second Culture's Om Studio with a huge collection of exotic, vintage and boutique manufactured synthesizers in Running Springs, California in the San Bernardino Mountains. FLYING POTION is the beginning of a major surge of regular releases from Second Culture with the follow up THUNDER CONJURING MIND taking finished form by summer 2013...
