NotesJoan Sebastian has been recognized by critics and colleagues for their contribution to Mexican culture, the lyrics of his songs have been performed by prominent Latino artists. After leaving a local seminary at the age of 17, the young man became involved in popular music, dedicating his first composition, called "Juliantla" to his hometown. In 1977, Jose Manuel Figueroa decided to call himself Joan Sebastian - in honor of San Sebastian, where he used to work. Joan was named king of the rodeo.
