Product Information
If you’re looking for video gaming fun with a retro feel, ’Earthworm Jim: Special Edition’ on Sega CD is for you. This 2D side-scrolling platform game represents the fun of playing Sega CD games in the mid-1990s. Unlike many games, it did not start in an arcade. In Earthworm Jim: Special Edition you’ll enjoy colorful and challenging levels that test any gamer’s skills as you progress through the game. This game, despite its playful characters and graphics, does require some strategy and thought to ensure that you can get past the bad guys and complete the game’s objectives. In Earthworm Jim on Sega CD, the player guides Earthworm Jim through a series of stages filled with enemies and other hazards. Jim's gun is a handy weapon for dealing with foes, but his head also serves as a defensive tool. Acting as a whip, his head is also useful for grabbing and swinging on hooks and other features throughout the levels. Some Earthworm Jim: Special Edition levels have objectives that go beyond simply making it to the end. For instance, in the level For Pete's Sake, Jim must ensure the safety of Peter Puppy by helping the computer-controlled character avoid pitfalls and foes. Earthworm Jim on Sega CD includes playful names for levels and characters. Levels with fun names include “What the Heck” and “Snot a Problem.” Boss names include Psy-Crow, Queen Slug-for-a-Butt, Evil the Cat, Bob the Killer Goldfish, Major Mucus, and Professor Monkey-for-a-Head. Andy Asteroids, a racing game, appears between some of the stages in Earthworm Jim Special Edition, giving the game a brief change of pace. In this mini game, Jim uses his rocket to race against Psy-Crow. As a penalty for losing, the player will actually battle Psy-Crow before advancing to the next stage in the game. Due to its success on the original Sega Genesis release, the Earthworm Jim game was ported to a wide variety of other platforms. The platforms that had these games from the Genesis include a version for Super Nintendo Entertainment System (SNES). The SNES version was released shortly after the Sega Genesis version. In the SNES version, the graphics were different and there were different backgrounds and special effects. The SNES version also lacked some sound effects and was missing one level. As a result, the Genesis version was more popular than the SNES game. There were also games based on the Sega Genesis version released for the Sega CD, Sega Master System, Game Boy, Game Gear, and Game Boy Advance. In the late 2000s, Earthworm Jim games were released through Wii’s virtual console. A Gameloft remake was released on XBox Live Arcade and PlayStation Network. This Earthworm Jim Sega CD release is a special edition that includes all of the original levels plus some extended sections on the levels, and an entirely new level called “Big Bruty.” There is also a remixed CD audio soundtrack and 1,000 more frames of in-game animation and alternate endings when you beat the game on the Practice or Difficult levels.Product Identifiers
