ReviewsA look at 10 technology innovators and entrepreneurs who have contributed to the development and penetration of the Internet. Some of the individuals never finished college and others have doctoral degrees, but each had an idea that they were able to bring to fruition and most made oodles of money in the process. They range from Larry Ellison, who founded Oracle, to Jeff Bezos, who started Amazon, and Esther Dyson, who edits the industry newsletter Release 1.0 and serves as chairperson of the Electronic Frontiers Foundation. Each 8- to 10-page entry includes anecdotes about the person's childhood, education, and innovations in business. Although successes are covered, French does mention setbacks and comebacks. Black-and-white photos help readers visualize the people described. The writing is accessible to reluctant readers and students should be able to identify many of the products described such as Yahoo, Intel, AOL, and Apple. A well-organized, interesting, and informative addition., School Library Journal September 2001
