Atari's bug-blasting arcade classic Centipede comes to the Apple II, bringing quite a bit of the game's look home but checking some of the fun and ease of play at the door. The graphics look reasonably like the coin-op's, and the sound somewhat less so, but control is the real issue. As with a lot of joystick adaptations of Centipede, there's no way the game can compare to the original version's slick trakball control (in this case, even the Atari VCS version adapted the game to joystick control better). Keyboard control is also offered, but that's even less reliable than using the joystick. Apple II Centipede makes a game effort in the graphics department, but the control issues detract enough from the overall experience -- which may send some ticked-off players fleeing.
