Product Information
Bram Stoker's nightmarish visions of old European folklore weren't so far from the truth. In fact, the truth is far worse: vampires walk amongst us, and their far-reaching powers have infiltrated society in ways we can't begin to imagine. They are on the street and in the business world, adding a blood-red tint to the already-cutthroat upper class society. They are powerful and plentiful, bearing down on the city with a long-toothed army that threatens our very existence.

But hope comes in unlikely forms, and perhaps our only hope lies with a man who walks the line between day and night. A half-breed, with the strength and speed of a vampire but the moral sensibility and ability to walk under the sun of a human. That curious creature is Blade, Marvel Comics' hero-turned-movie star, now starring in his own Game Boy Color game.

The game's plot is based loosely on the movie, although it also has its roots strongly planted in aspects of the comic. In it, you play the role of Blade, one half-vamp against an entire army of vampires who seek to control the city. Your only friend is the mysterious Whistler, an old friend that helps keep your gear in line and your head in check as you progress through the blood-and-guts battles in the hopes of taking down whoever or whatever is behind the vampires' sudden grab for power.

The game gives you the option of selecting a number of levels to begin with, and as you conquer these levels, more become selectable, essentially giving you partial control over the path of your game. Within the levels, gameplay takes on three distinct aspects. The main mode is very reminiscent of beat-'em-up brawlers such as Double Dragon, with Blade possessing a variety of kicks and punches, as well as the ability to block and counter his attackers. Another mode puts Blade at the trigger of his automatic rifle and shotgun as vampires duck and shoot from different points of the screen to try and take him down. The third mode finds Blade armed with that famous sword of his, slicing and dicing at the boss characters with an array of deadly techniques.

As you maraud through the game, you can update and improve your character's different abilities, from his brawling skills to the power and speed of his weapons and the strength of his steel. The plot also changes a bit depending on which route you choose to take on during the course of play.Product Identifiers
