Gamers help an imprisoned noble escape her dungeon and engage in turn-based battles on gridded maps to overthrow the usurper Marwan in Blackguards 2. Players take control of Cassia, who longs to claim the Shark Throne and has recruited familiar characters from The Dark Eye universe to assist her. Gamers guide an army of up to 20 mercenaries across a world map to conquer villages, forts, and settlements. The turn-based combat takes place on hex-grid maps, with players using a mix of melee combat, ranged attacks, traps, and magic spells to defeat various human and monster foes.<br><br>Once a location has been captured gamers gain access to its town center to visit trainers and purchase new items from shops. Enemies also try to reclaim captured locations, so players must periodically defend their territory. The choices users make can influence their interactions with party members, and may alter the game's ending.
