NovaLogic offers the challenge of commanding a platoon of M1A2 Abrams tanks in Armored Fist 3 (AF3). Obviously the follow up title to previous games featuring this venerable tank, AF3 simulates the latest (circa 1999) tank combat technology found in the American-made M1A2 Abrams Main Battle Tank, the product of more than 20 years of upgrades to the General Dynamics Land Systems Division M1 tank. The tank is designed to survive nuclear, biological and chemical warfare and boasts an improved 120mm smoothbore gun (the M256) developed by Rheinmetall GmbH of Germany. A state-of-the-art stabilizing system allows for accuracy while the tank is in motion and additional hardware includes 360 degree firing by on-board machine guns. For defense, the M1A2 uses twin six-barreled smoke grenade dischargers or an engine-fuel smoke generator. As commander in Armored Fist 3, the player assumes control of the four-man tank by operating the key stations and is responsible for tactical command of an entire four-tank platoon or full tank company. Challenges include troop support from enemy infantry, artillery strikes and air attacks as well as designing and executing battle strategies and plans. The game contains four major campaigns set in hot spots throughout the world, each consisting of a set of interlocked missions numbering over 50 in total. The campaigns will take the player to such diverse areas as Somalia, Thailand and Myanmar, Aghanistan and Pakistan, and Azerbaijan and Georgia. For fans who wish to create their own missions, AF3 contains a mission editor tool that allows for custom-made missions, fully exchangeable with other players over the Internet. Armored Fist 3 supports force feedback hardware and joysticks with twist functions, keyboard and mouse inputs.
