Notes
With six musicians in the band, Tack has some numerous decades' worth of Hollywood musical work among them. These are veterans of the industry, and their debut album sounds like it, though that's not to say that it sounds old. The various songs on the album deal primarily with the evils of the Iraq war and the Bush administration, with a parallel track of sexual perversion thrown in. The music, however, runs a larger range. 'Carl' has a basic riff reminiscent of some of the non-Seattle grunge bands, while 'La Cruz' has aspects of a Guns N' Roses ballad. There are hints of early-'90s power guitar, hints of late-'90s industrial, and hints of film score sound effects. Despite this wide range of stylistic touches and moods, the album remains surprisingly coherent in tone throughout. It's angry, but still largely melodic. Thick, but not quite sludgy. The lyrics and sounds here aren't going to be too highly surprising, but the performances are solid, and the crafting of songs is good.
