The box was intact and none of the screws or sealed parts appeared to have been opened or used. However, something was definitely wrong. When my HVAC guy put the batteries into the unit, it showed "room temperature" of 32 degrees. No amount of troubleshooting was able to cure it. So now I have a thermostat that cannot be returned to the seller and it makes me wish I had gone to Home Depot instead. Buyer beware!
