Glad she loves the typewriter! I was looking for a manual as well. Best I could find is try typing "smith corona spellmate 500 user manual" into google and one of the first results is from manualslib website. It's not the exact model number but it looks like the same SL 500 something series, so a lot of the functions in that manual may be similar.
