About this product
Product Information
The 23rd Annual University of Manchester Broadcasting Symposium looked at the question of live broadcasting, asking a wide range of questions, such as: To what extent does the presence of live cameras construct an event?; what are the reasons behind the growing trend towarsds live, cheap, daytime chat shows?; why is live TV sport such a bone of legal contention?; and do tele-events like the Eurovision Song Contest or Live-Aid gain from being live? Taking place, as it did during the 1992 General Election, this year's symposium looked at the live coverage of the election results, and delegates participated in action research on the night's viewing, collecting valuable data and developing analyses of the results programmes put out by ITN, BBC1 and Sky News: these are reported in detail in this volume. Among the contributors are: Ivor Gaber, Steve Barnett, Mary McAnally, Beverly Skeggs, Cresta Norris, Andrew Curry, Anthony Wilson, Melanie Phillips and John Tusa.
