Reviews
I think all serious learners of Japanese would do well to get their hands on this book. -- Tofugu.com, "This is one of my favourite books for reading practice... it's been great for learning new words. Each double page spread of the stories have the English version on the left and Japanese on the right. This makes it super easy to reference translations. What's even better is that all the vocab from the stories is compiled in a list at the end of each story. It's kind of like a reading book and dictionary in one." -- Michelle Studies Japan, manga and Japanese language influencer

Synopsis
A great story can lead a reader down a rabbit hole of discovery--especially if it's presented in two languages! Beautifully illustrated in a traditional style, Japanese Stories for Language Learners offers five compelling stories with Japanese and English language versions appearing on facing pages. Taking learners on an exciting cultural and linguistic journey, each story is followed by detailed translator's notes, vocabulary lists, and grammar points along with a set of discussion questions and exercises. The first two are very famous traditional folktales: Urashima Taro (Tale of a Fisherman) and Yuki Onna (The Snow Woman) . These are followed by three short stories by notable 20th century authors: Kumo no Ito (The Spider's Thread) by Akutagawa Ryunosuke (1892-1927), Oborekaketa Kyodai (The Siblings Who Almost Drowned) by Arishima Takeo (1878-1923), and Serohiki no Goshu (Gauche the Cellist) by Miyazawa Kenji (1896-1933). The latter stories are unabridged and unedited except for the addition of furigana pronunciations above the kanji characters. Reading these stories in the original Japanese--and hearing native-speakers read them aloud in the accompanying free audio recording--helps students at every level deepen their comprehension of the beauty and subtlety of the Japanese language., A great story can lead a reader on a journey of discovery--especially if it's presented in two languages! - m***4 (1619)- Feedback left by buyer.Past 6 monthsVerified purchaseLeaving positive feedback because 1) item was packed well & arrived as described 2) seller did give partial refund when subsequent price dropped below org purchase price. 3) communication was quick However, there was a downside to this transaction -item listed as in-stock but ended up waiting nearly a month for them to get it from their distributer then ship it to me (bought June 29th, arrived around July 21). Auction said 12-15 days. Better clarity would have prevented lot of frustrationStreet Fighter II - Guile (Player 2) Figure - 6 Inch (#365698737394)

Getting it shipped took a little long but the seller was very responsive when I messaged and sent me the tracking as soon as it was available. Plus they did a good job packaging it well enough that despite being banged up on the outside my item was completely undamaged.
