Given that all my hardcover books were just put in one plastic bag to ship, some damage could have happened in shipping as there really was not adequate (or any) packaging to protect the books. I don't think anyone could expect five heavy hardcover books in a thin plastic shipping bag, without packaging, to fare well in transit.
