About this product

Product Information

Bearing the best-known and longest-running design etched by the U.S. Mint, this U.S. penny was created in 1987, measures 0.75 inches (19 mm) in diameter, and weighs 0.09 oz (2.5 g). This U.S. penny is a zinc-copper coin with a zinc core clad in copper plating. The famous obverse design on this 1987 one-cent piece, created by sculptor and engraver Victor David Brenner, features a bust of President Abraham Lincoln and was commissioned in 1901 to honor his presidency. The reverse design on this U.S. penny was created by Frank Gasparro, the tenth Chief Engraver of the US Mint, and depicts the Lincoln Memorial in Washington D.C. A circulation strike of this 1987 one-cent piece was run at the Philadelphia Mint and contained 4,682,466,931 units. This zinc-copper coin has a smooth edging without any visible reeds.
