Synopsis
Claude Markovits tells the story of two groups of Hindu merchants from the towns of Shikarpur and Hyderabad in the province of Sind. Basing his account on previously neglected archival sources, the author charts the development of these communities, from the pre-colonial period through colonial conquest and up to independence, describing how they came to control trading networks throughout the world. While the book focuses on the trade of goods, money and information from Sind to the widely dispersed locations of Kobe, Panama, Bukhara and Cairo, it also throws light on the nature of trading diasporas from South Asia in their interaction with the global economy. This is a sophisticated and accessible book, written by one of the most distinguished economic historians in the field. It will appeal to scholars of South Asia, as well as to colonial historians and to students of religion., The book charts the development of merchant communities in the province of Sind from the pre-colonial period, throught colonial conquest, to independence. - _***n (159)- Feedback left by buyer.Past 6 monthsVerified purchaseThe "Latin Classics. Volume 2" CD is brand new, as stated in the ad.The disc itself is of good quality. The CD was packaged in a cardboard box, and unfortunately, the jewel case cracked during transportation and delivery, but the seller compensated for this issue by refunding 20% of the order price. The seller always responds to customer messages, which is very nice. The seller is honest and respectable. I am very pleased with the purchase. Thank you very much! I wish the seller all the best!

 - b***d (181)- Feedback left by buyer.Past monthVerified purchaseVery exceptional seller. Without me even asking , seller found a way to get product to me through US retailers so that product did not have to go through customs or did I have to pay import fees on my end. Product arrived as described in mint condition and considering what I saw this fairly scarce item going for elsewhere a VERY good Value. My thanks to the seller and they have won me over as a source for product that has to be ordered from UK
