It indeed was used as it arrived with all the software and files originally installed. A simple reformat did not erase the sectors that were protected by the original operating system so I had to jump through hoops to get it clean. This situation was problematic as I had no way of knowing whether there was malware on the drive which had to be installed on my computer to be cleaned up for reuse.
