    I needed genuine tungsten filament bulbs for their electronic properties, not for lighting at all. In parallel with a 200watt bulb then put in series with a suspect device, e.g. a faulty amplifier, these are invisible at low loads, but will simply light up if the suspect device has a short circuit fault. Hence they provide a "safe mains" supply with no violent sparks and blown fuses while your fault finding.
