The planned Fehmarnbelt fixed link is an immersed tunnel under the Baltic Sea that will connect the German offshore island of Fehmarn with the Danish island of Lolland, hence providing a direct link by railroad and highway between northern Germany and the Danish island of Lolland, and on to Zealand. It is one of the world's system-changing mega projects. The change to infrastructure, as well as the accessibility generated by the link, has the potential for new economic, cultural, and social developments in the regions and countries surrounding the link.
